Quite simply going through the arduous process of preparing fava beans for the first time. They are delicious, but amazingly time consuming, and what starts as a large bag of fresh pods ends up as a horrifically small bowl of shelled, skinned beans.
Something like that. The complete pods themselves are enormous too, but they are not in the photo. So you go from this 8 inch long pod, to large beans, to very small skinned beans. And it all takes a quite a while.
